Last night we held a delegate meeting at the home of Lorie Steed in West Valley City. I enjoy meeting with small groups in the relaxed atmosphere of the living room. It gives us a chance to talk about issues in depth and share our feelings about the direction our nation is headed. I appreciate the time delegates take out of their busy schedules to come hear me explain why I am running for Congress.
We’re now 9 days away from the state convention. Our campaign meeting schedule is becoming more intense as we try to cover as much ground as possible before May 10. If you have any questions, check out our events page for meetings near you or give us a call at 801-649-5346.

Last Saturday we attended the Utah County Convention. I enjoyed meeting with delegates and talking about issues important to them. It is humbling to see the efforts of so many people working hard to help get our message out.
I focused my remarks primarily on the need to have a representative willing to make tough decisions. I told the crowd I am willing to lose my job in order to do what is right. If they will support our cause in helping America return to the core values that have made us strong, we will continue to enjoy the prosperity we have enjoyed since the founding of our country.
Thanks to the Utah County Republican Party leadership for all their hard work in making everything so successful.
This week, we have many events at various locations throughout the district. For more information, check out our events page. I also look forward to two debates this weekend with the other candidates in this race. You can find information about those debates on our events page as well.

I couldn’t be more pleased with the success of the concerts we held we held Tuesday in South Jordan and Wednesday in Provo. We are so grateful to Michael McLean, John Batdorf, B. Murphy, and David Osmond for so generously donating their time to our cause and helping so many people feel uplifted and optimistic. The concerts were inspiring and gave us such hope for our future. Hundreds of people–mostly state delegates and their families–showed up to each concert and were treated to nearly 90 minutes of music. Throughout the performances, I shared several experiences from my life as a prosecutor and attorney that demonstrate the courage of everyday people. As I spoke with delegates after each event, so many of them expressed to me how moved they were by the music and words which were shared. These concerts gave us all a wonderful opportunity to focus less on our problems and instead celebrate all that is right with America.

Last night we enjoyed a wonderful concert by Michael McLean and three other performers at Bingham High School. Nearly 500 people attended the event and began lining up an hour before the show started. We appreciate the delegates, supporters, and families who came out to celebrate America’s promise with us. We all left feeling inspired by Michael’s music.
Tonight we will be in Utah County for the second show. Pease join us at the Covey Center for the Arts in Provo, 425 W. Center Street.
Additional tickets are still available for the Provo concert. Please contact us at 801-649-5346 or 801-953-7338. You can also email us at lin@davidleavitt2008.com. Priority seating for State Delegates will begin at 6:15 p.m. and continue until 6:45 p.m.

Yesterday was, like all other days, busy and fast-paced. After a day of many activities, I met with a few delegates at a home in Provo’s tree streets. We enjoyed an hour together discussing several issues. Near the end of the meeting, a woman who was born and raised in England asked me about my view on health care. She and her family had firsthand experience working and living in a system of universal healthcare. I explained to her my belief that socialized medicine is wrong for this country, and I outlined briefly the need for reform among lawyers who bring forth medical lawsuits, among insurance companies upon which we rely for our coverage, and among the medical professionals who treat us. We had a very rewarding discussion.
After that meeting, I drove down the street to our Provo campaign office to hold another meeting–this time with a few more people. About 25 or 30 people showed up. The response and support we received from that group of delegates was very encouraging. We also passed out many tickets to our upcoming event with Michael McLean next week. If you would like to reserve tickets for yourself and your family, please contact our campaign so we can help you with that. We are very excited for that event.

Last night we held a delegate meeting in North East Provo at the home of Jack and Janet Mahoney. I love having socials in homes because the atmosphere is more casual and allows for a more detailed discussion. We talked a lot about illegal immigration and American values. People typically want to know why they should vote for a new person rather than a 12-year veteran in Congress. I gave a very detailed answer because it really is the ultimate question in this election. I hope delegates who haven’t heard my response to this question will come to a meeting or e-mail me with that question.
We have 24 days until the state convention. Our days are beginning earlier and ending later as May 10th draws nearer. We have a high sense of urgency in delivering our message because we believe it is the right message for America.

Last night the campaign traveled to the Riverton City Library for a town hall meeting. I fielded questions from nearly 30 delegates. Questions ranged from immigration and energy independence to why they should vote for me over a sitting incumbent. The discussion centered on immigration and government’s ability to enforce the rule of law in a compassionate way. I told them some experiences from my days as a prosecutor where the rule of law was maintained while done in a compassionate way.
Most delegates I meet with are new delegates who have a desire for change and feel a responsibility to get involved. I, too, share their sentiment that change is necessary and we all have the responsibility to do our part. Utahns in the Third District understand that rights cannot be maintained without maintaining our responsibilities. We had a lively discussion on those principles. I left with a deepened appreciation for the care and concern that the delegates in this district have for our nation’s problems.
There seems to be a building excitement for our Michael McLean concerts next week. These will be great events, and I hope that everyone who comes will enjoy it as we celebrate what is right with America.

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings of this week I traveled to Beaver, Millard, and Juab Counties for their county conventions. At each convention I had the opportunity to meet newly-elected state and county delegates as well as other guests and elected officials. It was a privilege to be invited to speak along with the other third district candidates at each convention. Each night I emphasized the importance of having a leader in Congress who has courage and the ability to say no to special interests and those who would continue out of control federal spending. Washington needs more people who are willing to do what is right without regard for whether it will cost them or gain them votes back home.
During the daytime, I’ve been spending my time responding to delegate emails and telephone calls. I continue to be impressed by the interest and the dedication that delegates have to doing what they can to improve our government. I love visiting with people and hearing their concerns and ideas. Many of you have similar questions. To give you instant answers on reoccurring topics, I have begun posting video clips from past delegate meetings on this Web site. Please take a look at them and let us know what issues you’d like to see addressed via video clip on the web. We’ll do our best to accommodate. But don’t stop calling. I love the interaction and the creation of relationships that will hopefully endure long beyond this election process. Tonight we have a meeting planned at our West Jordan office (located across the street from Target at 6783 South Redwood Road). I’d encourage each of you to attend one of our meetings. We discuss the issues in depth and have found it to be a helpful forum for everyone.

March 29th, 2008
We just finished our sixth major campaign event in three days. We met our goal of meeting with as many state delegates as possible coming out of the caucuses. Here’s a breakdown of what happened:
Our first event was in Provo on Thursday evening. (I wrote about that in my last posting–everything went very well and we had over 110 people show up.) It was a perfect beginning to the intense days that followed.
Our next event was in West Jordan on Friday evening. The room we had booked for this event was absolutely packed with 75 or 80 people who came to listen. This was an especially energetic group who had enough questions that we spent nearly three hours discussing issues of all kinds. I enjoyed meeting everyone who came and appreciated the time those people took on a Friday evening to hear what I had to say.
Saturday was the final day of our marathon meeting schedule. We began in the morning at our Nephi campaign office with delegates from Juab County. After that ended, we drove over to Delta and met with delegates from Millard County. Our third stop was in Richfield to meet with delegates from Sevier County. Finally, we ended up in Ephraim in the evening to meet with delegates from Sanpete County.
We couldn’t have been more pleased with these events as many people turned out to listen to our message and discuss the fine points of many issues. Our campaign has built tremendous momentum heading into the county conventions that begin tomorrow in Beaver.

March 28th, 2008
We are making a very concerted effort to meet with as many newly-elected state delegates as we can before the end of this week by holding events all throughout the district. Last night we held a major event at the Wells Fargo Building in Provo. We had a fabulous evening. Over 110 people showed up! I spent some time telling about my family and professional background and explaining why I am running for Congress. I then shared my views on many issues that I have found, through holding town meetings several times a week since October, are very important to voters in this district such as fiscal responsibility, illegal immigration, energy, and education. I also opened the floor up for questions from the audience and spent time addressing a wide range of issues.
The evening was full of energy and excitement. Many people stayed long after I finished speaking to talk and ask more questions. One man complimented us on the intensity and volume of our campaign. I hope people see how serious we are about the direction of our country. Meetings like last night’s are so rewarding because of the people who come to discuss issues that need to be addressed and values that need to be trumpeted on a national level.
Thanks to all who came and participated in making that event so successful and productive. Our next event is tonight at the West Jordan Justice Center at 7:00.
